I would suggest you look at concatenation, Date::Manip, and incrementation, or the ++ operator ( check out perlop for details ). Finally, if none of these look interesting, take a look at File Tests, such as -M (Modification Age) and -e (File / Dir Exists).

Also, I would look into getting Learning Perl on Win32 Systems, by our very own merlyn.
