I saw your earlier post here and the response was to use cpan o conf. That might have been confusing. What you want to do is to enter the cpan shell, then enter o conf. Your configuration will come up. Look for make_install_make_command. It'll tell you where your make command is located, if you have make. For example, in my conf I get

make_install_make_command [/usr/bin/make]
