Editors are very much a matter of personal taste. You also don't say what operating system and/or user interface you're using; many editors are not cross-platform, and that makes an answer harder.
That said, you might want to look at VIM http://www.vim.org, which is a _very_ fully featured editor that many people use for editing Perl code.
