This is likely due to a problem with your g++ installation based on what I read at
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2009-07/msg01240.html, so please first upgrade/reinstall your local compiler suite. Next, rather than installing through CPAN, you might consider installing the source RPM or DEB, depending on your Linux.
