I will not argue about this being a "homework assignment" or not? But as far as the rules are concerned, (even for a home work assignment), I have tried and posted my code first, before asking for help.

Also, unlike many other Monks here, who have 10-12 years of Perl scripting experience, I am just a beginner, with hardly 2 months of Perl, on my sleeve. Helping newbies, like me, is what this community is all about, isn't it?
