Have you had a look at CPAN, maybe someone has done it before? Unfortunately my quick glimpse shows that Mail::Client::Yahoo and Mail::Webmail::Yahoo are out of date. Maybe they still might hold some treasure.

If you really want to implement your own mail client, these modules might help. WWW::Mechanize::Shell or WWW::Mechanize::Firefox.
