I agree with tye's points that questions or answers can be useful to others even when ill-considered or mistaken, and so should not necessarily be reaped just for these reasons or at the request of the OPer.

However, when considering the addendum to the OP ("The ctrl-Gs are added by the [unspecified] box I am connecting to... [They] were ... just the result of another [unspecified] problem."), it seemed no problem or solution remained that was worthy of the name and the OPer's own assessment ("Please ignore this question") should be given strong consideration. Of course, any action, as always, remains entirely the province of The Reaper, before whom I tremble!
