I would think a notification of replies to your replies (or replies to that, replies to that, etc) would be rather simple.

Definitely agreed! Considering the slightly bizarre nature of the existing "node navigator", I dunno why it doesn't exist. However, AFAICT no one around here is getting paid; maybe you should join pmdev, or give them more of a nudge nudge somehow.
