I would definitely be in favour of a wider textarea to edit my posts.

Having said that, is it actually the sidebar that's limiting the width? I've just checked the source (while making this post) and found:

<textarea name="note_doctext"  rows="10" cols="60">

It may be that this is configurable through one of the Settings screens: I've looked but haven't found anything that seems to do that.

Regardless, not having to wait while XP is calculated, CB is updated, current user list is compiled, etc. would be most welcome.
