Just a quick note on documentation: The authors of "The Pragmatic Programmer" (which comes highly recommened to me by various sources) have also written "Programming Ruby: The Pragmatic Programmer's Guide". Given the reviews these authors (David Thomas & Andrew Hunt) recieved for the first, I'd suspect their second offering would be worthwhile as well.
