Try it and see! You'll spend far more time agonising over optimisation that you are likely to save in execution time.
Once you have some code working, and if it proves too slow for your application, then come back and ask for a better way to achieve your purpose. This sort of optimisation problem is almost always highly dependent on the exact problem you are trying to solve.
