Hi baxy,

Ubuntu offers you a wonderful package manager in apt. try the following 

sudo apt-get install libterm-readline-gnu-perl

[download]
This should install all dependencies without the need to footle about

print "Good ",qw(night morning afternoon evening)[(localtime)[2]/6]," fellow monks."
