Thank you everyone so much for your replies! I think I have a better understanding of how subroutines work and the scope of variables as well. Programming is very difficult for me, hence why I am a networking major, heh. I'm sure I'll end up posting again on here at some point, but it's refreshing to know that there are people such as yourselves who're willing to help others, and to explain the way things work.
