Is there a work around this problem?
Split up the file in chunks such that an upload of an individual chunk takes less than 2 minutes. And when you've uploaded all chunks, concatenate them back together again.
E.g., something like
$ split -b 1000000 -d somefile part $ ls -l part* -rw-r--r-- 1 er er 1000000 2011-08-31 20:45 part00 -rw-r--r-- 1 er er 1000000 2011-08-31 20:45 part01 -rw-r--r-- 1 er er 1000000 2011-08-31 20:45 part02 -rw-r--r-- 1 er er 1000000 2011-08-31 20:45 part03 -rw-r--r-- 1 er er 1000000 2011-08-31 20:45 part04 -rw-r--r-- 1 er er 255623 2011-08-31 20:45 part05
then, upload all parts and do
$ cat part* > somefile
