Seconded - Parallel::ForkManager is excellent, also Parallel::Forker is you want a little more control. There are several nodes in the monastery detailing usage etc... Working in parallel, IPC::Shareable and Parallel::Forkmanager Question, Stop fork in Parallel::ForkManager...
