So I am gonna change my habit to do this way : 
@arr = qw/Foo Bar Blaz/;

foreach ( @arr ) {
  my $ele = $_;
  $ele =~ s/^(.)/x$1/;
}

# or this

while ( my $ele = <@arr> ) {
  $ele =~ s/^(.)/x$1/;
}

print "@arr"; # still 'Foo Bar Blaz'
