There is nothing wrong with reinventing the wheel. Wrong is not abandoning your wheel when you find another one that is significantly better than your own.
Anyway, as I have found the hard -- and therefore, more convincing -- way, "to reinvent or not to reinvent" is hardly an essential question. *The* essential question is, what will cost me less, reinventing or adapting? From that perspective, the glory of achievement seems to diminish rather fast.
