Reminds me of a lightning talk at the French Perl Workshop a few years ago by Jean Forget, "Réinventer la roue" (Reinventing the wheel): http://www.flickr.com/photos/dorey_sebastien/328091775/. I don't know if there's a video of it, and it was in French, but he gave an amusing/ironic deadpan presentation of the history of the wheel.
