The usual Perl GTK tutorial http://gtk2-perl.sourceforge.net/doc/gtk2-perl-study-guide/c1701.html provides a nice example of how to disable/grey out buttons:

# desensitize the save button if the entry is empty or blank my $text = $entry->get_text; $window->set_response_sensitive ('accept', $text !~ m/^\s*$/); $window->set_response_sensitive ('reject', TRUE);

This works on the parent Gtk2::Dialog to desensitise every button in the window, but it doesn't desensitise any Gtk2::Entry boxes in the window.

It's simple to make the entry uneditable:

my $entry = Gtk2::Entry->new(); $entry->set_editable(FALSE);

...but this leaves no visual indication that the box has been desensitised. How can I achieve the same effect, namely to grey out the entry box?
