Heh, I like that solution. Note that adding a second 'DBIC' and/or a second 'Dancer' demonstrates flaws in the exact regex you chose. But both of those flaws are easily overcome: 

$list =~ /.*DBIC\0(.*?)\0DANCER/
#         ^^         ^
