I'm not aware of that functionality being available in XML::Simple. This module recognises certain limitations and provides advice in WHERE TO FROM HERE?.

XML::Twig and XML::LibXML may be of interest to you. XML::Twig - Alternative Modules provides a comparison of these two modules.
