Is there an update to that perl module that I don't know about and should be using?

Maybe, which version are you using , http://search.cpan.org/~aufflick/HTTP-Daemon-SSL-1.05_01/ is the latest

Maybe your cert files got corrupted? Or the env var that points to the cert files got removed?
