Good Luck! The wxBook is probably worth the money as a companion to the example code. I had trouble using the wxWidgets pdf document due to it's size. It takes forever to search for a topic on my old Thinkpad.
I have started the process of moving the example code to github. Since I've never used git, I expect this to take awhile for this learning curve. Also check out http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.wxperl.users/2012/08.html
