as others have pointed out, it's impossible. but you don't have to stick to simple single variable assignment. eval is your friend.

$ eval `perl -e 'print "foo=bling bat=blam bort=boom\n"'`
$ echo foo: $foo bat: $bat bort: $bort
foo: bling bat: blam bort: boom
