My experience is in using prefork, but I cache some 10M of data from the database in the startup.pl, which gave me a 99% speedup on all my pages. (The page design is weird - it requires a potential 10k hits against a database, depending on the user's usertype.)

I can't imagine that threaded would be that different. My only contribution to the thread would be to cache everything before page hits. (But, I know nothing about threaded MP.)
