in reply to Perl applications

Also need to add (former job): AT&T Wireless heavily uses Perl to interconnect their billing systems (FTP based, mainframe legacy stuff) to modern database and Customer Relationship Managment (CRM) and Accounting systems.

Perl is also heavily used in constructing custom mutli-machine build environments (aka "build labs"), as is the case with my current employer -- due to proficiency in manipulating SQL, SMTP, FTP, SSH, HTTP, and various other protocols -- plus it does great building archives, assembling logs, etc. Perl rocks as a networked applications language.
