Pearte has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Dear monks,

I did some CPANning and came up short, so I was hoping you all might have a solution. I am interested in taking basic latitude and longitude coordinate pairs and gathering information about the geographic location at that point: Continent, Country, State / Province, County, City ...

Anyone point me in the right direction ??

Thanks.

Geo::PostalCode might do what you want. Despite its name, it returns city and state in addition to ZIP codes. Compatible data files are currently only available for the US (AFAIK), but if you could find the required information for another area, getting it to work would simply require a short script to put the data in the right format.

I want to create a module to handle the Geonet names Server, someday I'll get around to it.
