You can write "full-fledged" Mac apps using the Mac specific library. I find it very useful. at least until someone is diligent enough to port Perl/Tk. (I'm still waiting on that...) Anyway, it is really NOT a good idea to write massive Mac apps in Perl because they will simply end up taking up a phenomenal amount of memory. I use macperl mainly for testing cgi before i put it on any site, as an applescript interface (make shiny buttons to run applescripts, oooo!), and to make quick apps. Just make sure you change the memory partition in MacPerl to something high. In my experience, I have found macperl exceptionally stable and the CGI interface is very cleverly written. The CGIs will hang around for five minutes- without fastCGI! that's was thinking ahead. I actually think that there is some compilation step between writing your perl and saving it as cgi but im not sure. have fun, it's a great and powerful app which incorporates all of the OS 8 features (not 9 or cocoa). applescript works fine, cgi works great, mac API works great. have fun!
