Simply that you seem to enjoy teaching. I know that you weren't responsible for the intro, so it's going to be a fairly accurate view of the type of person you really are in regards to your involvement with the community.

Thus, following the most compelling reason why people enjoy teaching, the response from the community must be a high enough factor for you to stay involved. So, I'm willing to at least state that, given that most people are drawn to discussions in which they can contribute, and that you being one of the penultimate teachers of Perl, it is likely that you get more from the community at large. Note that my connotation of 'contribute' means to both ask and answer.

Simply stated, there is quite possibly no way for me to ask and answer as much as you do (at this point in time). So it's my bet that there is a certain thrill to be involved at your level that I cannot experience entirely.

      Larry's da man! (Please don't ++ me if you run across this node, since this is such a blatant request for ++. I'd rather my points come from real posts.)

      We wouldn't be perl monks w/o Larry, of course. But a lot of us wouldn't be perl monks w/o you either. I still go back to old WT columns if I remember that you had a solution that rocked.

      In the spirit of the original post that sparked this thread, the world of art benefited greatly by the works of Michelangelo and DaVinci. Some of the derivative masters that came about afterwards don't hold as high a respect in my book, but that's a personal taste. Well, you may not be Michelangelo or DaVinci, but even after my diatribe :) I would like to take this opportunity to say that I wouldn't be the perl programmer I am today if I hadn't had some of the lessons I learned from you.

      Thankfully this node is pretty far down, and I've already requested no ++, that this can actually stand as a genuine thanks rather than some contrived bit of reverence. I've already said my piece about that earlier in this thread as well.
