    kill($kidpid[no],SIGSTOP);

      The "problem" with kids is that they usually run in some Robin Hood and Friar Tuck mode so you'll have to stop them all at the same time, or one of the others will quickly make the stopped kid start again...

      But, I've just got 5, so what do I know :)
