Friendly PM Offline Reading

Is there a way to quickly download the newest nodes along with all their responses in one page for later offline reading? Sometimes this would be useful, like when I'm on a plane or train for numerous hours.

There was a discussion on this (Reading PerlMonks offline) a while ago, which resulted in a script pulling down individual nodes. But this approach seems like it's a waste of bandwidth and would impose unnecessary stress on the PM servers if used by too many people.

Is there an API that lets you fetch a range of nodes in, say XML format?

Look at What XML generators are currently available on PerlMonks? You may use newest nodes xml generator to get the index, and for the ones you like, you may get the contents in xml format. Did you notice that on top of each node there are a few links, saying "print", "w/replies", "xml"? Try to click one of them and see if they can be of any help.	[reply]

If you've got a decent newsreader, you can use Perlmonks -> NNTP gateway. Note that that won't give you everything a client built for PM specificly can give you, because NNTP's model and PM's model don't quite mesh all the time. However, it does have the advantage of actually working, mostly, and having all the features that your NNTP client has. Note that the gateway is unidirectional.
