It never really worked anyway, as Damian was quick to point out. If you forget to add it somewhere, it blows the whole thing.

True, and I personally don't like the syntax, but you don't need it, except for compile-time checks. The run-time checks will work without it too, as long as you
use fields
(as demonstrated in my post above)
