Building bots with Perl is nothing new. But Wired has this article about a AIM chatting bot built with Perl.

The bot automatically contacts that person and relies on its artificial "brain," a PERL script that incorporates thousands of lines of code covering countless mundane conversation topics, all of which respond to keywords typed by the victim, said Steve Darval, the brain's head developer.

Of course, they misspell Perl. You would hope they would at least spell it right. Am I the only one who finds this terribly annoying? Idiots! Anyway, I think Perl is perfect for this task. So I unleashed the bot on an unsuspecting person in my buddy list. Hilarity ensued. The funniest part was when he invited the Perl bot to the gym.

The bot is Decaffed250, but she goes by the name "Ashley". The first message is supplied by me. But the rest is all Ashley.
