If you have large datasets, then I think you might want to do some looking into 'Data Mining'.

Kurt Thearling's Page has some good tutorials and white papers on the subject of data mining, which he defines as: the automated extraction of hidden predictive information from databases

If your datasets aren't large, however, then I don't know that this will be much help.
