You might like to look at a project i'm working on called MuVOn (http://muvon.sourceforge.net/), which is written in Perl and uses Gtk+ . . . .

    I looked at muvon, but i didn't really like it, i want CLI, not gtk :) And besides, I want to brush up my perl skills.

    BTW, have you got any info on how muvos handle playlists, my muvo seems to just play stuff in alphabetical order if there is a playlist, if not, it plays the album backwards (eg song 10, song 9, song 8 ...) which really bothers me.
