bkiahg has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello Monks,

I am trying to remove some files off of our network. Is there any way to delete files off of a remote machine? Its a win2000 network with active directory. Please point me in the direction of some good reading material.

Thanks in advance!

Ok I see where I am being considered. Not sure why that is. Please give me a reason for this and I will be happy to correct anything on my part.

    yes, there is. how are these files accessible? you could mount the files via NFS and manipulate them, you could delete them via ftp (assuming ftp is set up) or you could use a remote shell like ssh. what OS is this thing running and what do you already have set up? a specific question is required to provide a specific answer.

    perl -e"\$_=qq/nwdd\x7F^n\x7Flm{{llql0}qs\x14/;s/./chr(ord$&^30)/ge;print"

      It's a 2000 network. No ftp. Hope this helps.

        UNC paths work with most functions, incl unlink:
        unlink("\\\\server\\share\\dir\\file.txt");
        If there's no share, there's the special C$, D$, etc shares for C:, D:, etc:
        unlink("\\\\server\\C$\\dir\\file.txt");
        Does that help?

    Howdy!

    The node is considered because someone thinks it is Off Topic for PerlMonks. They are asking that it be tagged as OT.

    Why would someone think that?

    What does your question have to do with Perl? There is no evidence that your question is about Perl, or involves the use of Perl. Absent such evidence, there is a fair argument that the question doesn't belong here.

    yours,
    Michael
      I guess I just assumed that since it was a Perl forum that I would be wanting a Perl solution. In the future I will be more descriptive. Thanks!
