Well, OK. I'll just give it to you : )

Over on Two Things, gaggio suggested we have a Perlmonks logo. It got me thinking. So I dusted off Photoshop 5 and gave it a whirl. Mind you, I'm not a designer by any means, but this is what I came up with:

small version
big version

Click it for a bigger one. I figure it's kinda monky, kinda perlish. What do you think? I really mean them to be a starting poing for talk about this, nothing more. After seeing how AWESOME the Tee Shirt came out, I know there are people with some real design talent out there...

Perlmonks Logo.

One of the things I really like about the Perl Monks is that it's Monks are not specifically Oriental, European or Asian. Perl Monks are capable of finding their own idiom.

Applying the signs (as above) reduces the wooliness that allows so many different hackers to invisage themselves as any Monk of X denominations. (Where X is a number suitably large to make my point :)

You know, I hadn't thought about that, but you are right. I always put 'monk' in an asian context - which was reinforced by the recent T-shirts. But I have to agree that the PM logo would have to be something that allows for any of the images of the monk...

I like the idea of contributing logos, I don't want to detract from an excellent idea :)

I kinda like it; I suppose the only things I'd like to add are some shading or texturing on the 'doors', and maybe something identifying pm.org, maybe an "Olde English" font-type "perlmonks.org" on the 'lintel' (beam above the door).

Well I have a flash logo for perlmonks. It is in a tar file here. You can view it on my website at www.csis.gvsu.edu/~harnisjl

If you don't have Flash go to macromedia.com they also have it for *nix.

I agree with Albannach. The style is tre cool, but the expression could use some adjusting.
I'll update this node later one with my rendition/idea of a perlmonks logo.

      UPDATE:
I used Macromedia Flash 4 to create the fists and the hood, and the rest i did in Photoshop5.5. It took me about 2h to do the Flash stuff, and about 2h to do the Photoshop stuff. That's the best i can do at the moment, but i'll add more soon(week or so). Here it is, a perlmonk, you can't tell who he is, but you know he knows TIMTOWDI: my attempt

      update:
Unlike the saying goes, There Is More Than One Way. Do It.

"cRaZy is co01, but sometimes cRaZy is cRaZy".
                                                            - crazyinsomniac

        Or even TIMTOWTDI? :)
I like your direction with this one, but I think that a raised cowl with perhaps just the tip of the nose and a knowing smile visible would be a bit better (especially given the interest in co-ed Perl lately - you monk wouldn't attract the ladies ;-)

Sorry, but I can't imagine anyone recognizing this as a gate or even anything having to do with perl. You need to throw some more info in before it becomes more obvious. #! can be used in any shell script.

Well, it's not quite a *logo* per se, and it's inspired loosely by jptxs' above, but here's my idea (maybe this is just a banner ad idea?)

I'm no graphic artist. It's trop facile to knock something off in GIMP, and I lack the skills to make it byooteeful. Plus, I saved it as a gif and I'm too lazy to pngify it.

    Perl Monks logo ?
