ChipmunkCHeeks has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

When I try to use either FindBin or rel2abs on an AFS file system in perl 5.6 the performance is horrible. Are there any work arounds for this? I know perl 5.8 FindBin's performance is much better, but I can't force my customers to change which version they are using. Thanks
