That looks like a serious problem (Symbol.pm has been core since 5.00307).
Either you have a very very old perl, old enough to be full of serious bugs,
or your installation is very very broken,
in either case I would look to see if there is a different perl installed on the machine,
and/or ask the sysadmin to provide you with a more modern perl (5.6 and up).
