We have two sections for that, in fact. Your homenode, and your signature. (Though keeping the signature short is preferred). Nodes on perlmonks, broadly, are preferred to contain some actual creativity on the part of the writer.

I tend to agree with your estimation (though I'm sure my own take on the matter is less connected to "official opinion" even than yours, having been here a somewhat shorter time). While the Perl news section would have been more appropriate for a new article, even there I'd like to see something more about it than just a link.
