GUID generation module

johnnywang has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi, I'm looking for a module for generating GUID, I've found: Win32API::GUID and Win32::Guidgen, but they only run on win32. Is there a general GUID module? Thanks.

Sometimes these are called UUIDs, Try Data::UUID	[reply]
