Generally, "Class not registered" means you don't have the COM object installed properly (or not installed at all). In this case, that means the SAPI libraries and/or DLLs. If you have Windows Script Host installed (the default on WinXP and Win2K), see if you can create the object in a VBScript snippet.

As BrowserUk pointed out, it's "Dave" Roth, not "Phil" Roth as I originally had it...

    Thanks for the suggestion. I found the problem. It was brain damage on my part. I thought the MS speech kit was an all-or-nothing install. Digging deeper, I see that the text-to-speech engine was installed, but the recognition engine was not installed. Once the recognition engine was installed, the code ran fine. I've been beating my head on those 2 lines of code for a week!
