This question was asked at the beginning of this year.

I was wondering how people felt about it today:

We've a large Perl CGI Database Web App that I'm just now getting around to converting to mod_perl.

mod_perl for apache 2.0 doesn't have quite as much documentation available as mod_perl for apache 1.3.

Which should I used?

    mod_perl 2.0 is still in "development" (seems like it has been for a few years now) and is quite a major redesign; I believe the official line is that it's not recommended for use in production.

    I am happily using 1.0 and don't feel any burning desire to switch to 2.0, but other people may have different priorities.

      actually mod_perl 2.0 is in release candidate stage. It won't be long now til it's a production release. In fact, there are many companies/organizations that have been using mp2 in production for some time.

      It really depends on what your needs are. Most of the development work is being done on mp2, and mp1 is pretty much in feature freeze. Also, mp2 has many more features than mp1. So if you need features and flexibility, than mp2 is probably the way to go.

      You are right that there are more tutorials, books and documentation for mp1 than mp2 (mostly because the api is almost identical in most instances). Also, there are a lot more people familiar with mp1 than mp2, so if that is more along your speed then go with mp1.

        Yes, mod_perl 2.0 is stable and can be used in production environments. I've used it for a couple of large mission critical apps.

        As far as documentation everything you need is right here. The mailing list is great also. People are very responsive to answering mod_perl 2.0 related questions.
