blackadder has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi Guys,

Is there away that I can print ANSI type (DOS like text) characters anywhere on the screen?

Not within the CMD window, but outside it….kinda anywhere on the screen.

What I am trying to do is to script an application installation progress indicator. Similar to this Freesbie Linux distribution screen shot here if you look at the top right corner.

I tried use Win32::Console::ANSI;use Term::ANSIScreen qw/:color :cursor :screen/; but this only print inside the cmd window.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

It looks like you want a transparent, borderless window. How you do that on Windows is up to you, but there is plenty of discussion about it for other graphics toolkits.

      Thanks Brian,

"...a transparent, borderless window", this phrase is what I was looking for. I'll try it in Tk.
