I primarily use exim -- www.exim.org . You can build it with an embedded perl interpreter, and do some neat things that you might enjoy. One of my machines runs postfix. I think its a great program too. Both distributions have comprehensive sendmail support -- 99% of things you do should work exactly the same, with little or no change.
