How about starting a new page (possibly in a new browser window) from the cgi script, with a content type associated on the client end with the desired executable?

This assumes, of course, that Javascript is enabled and enable-able on the client side. Being right, does not endow the right to be rude; politeness costs nothing. Being unknowing, is not the same as being stupid. Expressing a contrary opinion, whether to the individual or the group, is more often a sign of deeper thought than of cantankerous belligerence.
