ROB6789 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

with the program
print "hey, whats your name?\n"; chomp($name = <STDIN>); print "hello, $name!";
(THE PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING IS THAT, ONCE I GET PAST WHERE YOU ENTER YOUR NAME, THE PROGRAM SHUTS OFF, ANY IDEAS AS TO WHY?)

Updated Steve_p - added code tags and removed bold tags

    Something else you may want to consider is an editor that will let you run your code and see the results. I'm using Context and have set it up so that the F12 key checks to make sure I don't have any syntax errors and F9 runs my code.

    Context is a free editor that works for Perl in addition to many other languages.

    Useless trivia: In the 2004 Las Vegas phone book there are approximately 28 pages of ads for massage, but almost 200 for lawyers.

    First of all, no one is dumb. You are clearly showing some sign of intelligence by declaring defeat, and moreover, asking for help.

    As far as your question, I tried your code and it appears works fine.
