Are there any limitations with either the DBM format or with Perl's DBM interfaces as far as size goes?

The DBM library available on your target system may have record size limits. You may need to run some quick tests to discover them. (I've seen 1K record limits on Windows with ActivePerl 5.003, and limits so big that I didn't care on FreeBSD.)

    Test.

There is no single dbm format. It is an interface to a series of libraries, each of which has its own format or formats.

A reasonable comparison of the common options is available at AnyDBM_File.
