perlNoob has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I think I have asked a similar question a long time ago on
something similar to this but I didn't figure out how to
do exactly what I wanted.

Basically, using a DirTree or something similar, I need to
display the whole network, i.e. the workgroups and
computers in them. I would be able to do this if I
could locate my network places original position or
something along the lines but I can't find it anywhere.

Am I going about this all wrong?

Impossible to say if you're going all wrong as we don't know where you already went. Can you show us some code you tried? Also giving some more info on your type of OS and network would give us some clue what we are dealing with.

That being said have a look at NetworkInfo::Discovery, perhaps it does what you want (I didn't try it because it doesn't install on my Windows XP for lack of a compiler).
