The OP is obviously asking a question related to perl formats.
I would not call it "obviously". It can be guessed, yes, but not known. He also might want to put a date in a HTTP-header or something.
The OP should read Tutorials, esp. On asking for help and How to ask questions the smart way (off-site).

    I consider the mention of STDOUT_TOP a dead giveaway. If prasadbabu didn't understand that the question was about formats, then he has no business answering it.

    And as for you holli - I wish people would stop playing dumb, get off the "you have to ask the question perfectly or we'll flame you to hell" high-horse, and get on with helping people. Sheesh.
